The 15th amendment was rejected the first time it was brought to the California Legislature (in 1870). It was later passed unanimously in 1962.

Of the 14 federal constitutional amendments approved by the California Legislature, only the 17th Amendment was ratified by a resolution authored by a committee.

There has been a single “Dean of the Assembly” for 81 of the last 83 years. That will end for the foreseeable future when Mike Gatto leaves in 2016.
