Perea Resignation Letter

Over the weekend, the Assembly Daily Journal for January 4th went online, which gave the public its first view of Assemblyman Henry T. Perea‘s month-old resignation letter.

  • The letter was addressed to the Assembly Speaker.
  • At 160 words, this is the longest resignation letter since Holly Mitchell resigned from the Assembly in 2013.
  • Perea used the term “bittersweet” in his letter, which Steve Knight also used in his resignation letter in January 2015.

December 3, 2015

The Honorable Toni G. Atkins
Speaker of the Assembly
State Capitol, Room 219
Sacramento, California

Dear Madame Speaker:
It has been the honor of my life to serve the people of my hometown and Fresno County. Over the past 13 years, I have worked tirelessly with our communities to improve the quality of life in Fresno. I hereby respectfully submit my resignation as State Assemblymember of the 31st Assembly District, my resignation is effective on December 31, 2015.
I worked hard every day to deliver on the most pressing issues facing our state. This is a bittersweet moment for me, as I announce my departure from the State Legislature to pursue other career opportunities. Thank you for your leadership in the Assembly and for your commitment to the State of California. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and look forward to continuing my advocacy for our community.
Respectfully,
HENRY T. PEREA, Assembly Member
Thirty-first District
