One Voter Project

The Online Home of California's Political History

Added Bio: Timothy E. Treacy

While working on a research project tonight, I stumbled on a name that I hadn’t seen before; State Senator Timothy E. Treacy of San Francisco.

I was able to find two short articles that I have now combined into a biography on JoinCalifornia. He was born in Ireland back in 1862. An interesting note from one of the sources indicated that;

“In 1897 Tim Treacy was elected to the State Assembly and there fathered two bills which became California’s first minimum wage and maximum hour law… Treacy’s bills set a minimum of $2.00 a day for eight hours of labor.”
