Shannon Grove’s Appeal to Heaven

Although public prayer by candidates and elected officials is nothing new, Assemblywoman Shannon Grove‘s plea to God (posted on Facebook this morning) was unlike any other that I can remember seeing before.

Shannon Grove's Prayer

Specifically,Grove declared, “as a child of the most high God” that the names of Rob McCoy and Pedro Rios “will be called on the State Assembly Floor on the 1st day of Roll call as the representatives of the 44th and 32nd Assembly districts…”

“I need Rob McCoy and Pedro Rios to be elected to the 44th and 32nd Assembly districts. I declare as a child of the most high God that their names will be called on the State Assembly Floor on the 1st day of Roll call as the representatives of the 44th and 32nd Assembly districts That they will serve as my colleagues.”

We’ll keep you updated as the election results come in.

12/1/2014 @6:45AM: Neither Rob McCoy nor Pedro Rios was elected to the Assembly.

Fun Fact

The highest vote count for a State Assemblymember was in 2008,when Ted Gaines won with 166,736 votes. His high count was a combination of a district whose population had grown faster than any other since the last redistricting and being the only candidate on the ballot.
