Based on the timeline for the state senate Special Elections in 2013, it appears likely that the Special Primary Election for the vacancies in SD-07, SD-21, and SD-37 (resulting from the resignations of State Senators Mark DeSaulnier, Steve Knight and Mimi Walters) will take place on March 17th.
The Special General Elections (needed if no candidate gets 50% of the vote in the Primary) would follow eight weeks later.

Q: Who was the last person to serve as Assembly Speaker and Senate President pro Tem? A: James T. Farley served as Speaker in 1856 and Pro Tem in 1871-1874. Only one other person, Ransom Burnell, has ever held both titles.
