Updated JoinCalifornia to add the following information:
The Montelena Winery was founded in 1882 by A. L. Tubbs, who was a State Senator (Union Party) in 1866-8. His grandson, Tallant Tubbs, was a State Senator between 1925 and 1932 (and was one of the youngest State Senators ever, being first elected at age 24).
What makes the Tubbs connection interesting was that when Tallant ran for Lieutenant Governor in 1930 (he lost), he ran as a member of the Prohibition Party (as in, with some irony, the prohibition of alcohol).
The 2008 movie “Bottle Shock” was based on the story of wine grown at Chateau Montelena.
